What Do Job Seekers See When They Research Your Company?
You probably already know that job seekers are checking you out almost as thoroughly as you are checking them out. With sites like www.indeed.com and www.glassdoor.com it is now easy for anyone to find out more about what it is like to work in your company.
Unfortunately, it is very easy for disgruntled employees or customers to tarnish your reputation by posting a poor review and their comments are not in your control. But you do have control on how you respond.
First, don’t put your head in the sand and hope for the best
This is NOT going to go away! Claim your employer page on Indeed and Glassdoor. Build a branded page and monitor it frequently. This allows you to see what is being said by current or former employees. See a negative review? Engage and offer to communicate offline to help in a timely manner. This helps viewers see that you are responsive. When you see a positive review, respond to that too, everyone likes to be acknowledged!
Do your job seekers see a lot of negative comments about your company?
A lot of negative reviews? Look at company policies and processes for possible updates or improvements. Review exit interviews to see if you can gain insight into where you need to improve. Commonly, people post a review when they are angry, so encourage happy employees to post their positive comments. The more good reviews you get, the more likely that job seekers will chalk up the negative comments to what they are: disgruntled employees.
According to Glassdoor, it’s a good idea to promote employee engagement online. From new hire to long-term employee, team member to management: get a company program going that invites, includes and encourages your employees to participate. The more positive presence, the better job seekers you will attract. Good for the company and great for the employees who end up working with teams that help them meet their career goals.
